Zoological Society of Scotland

The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland helps support a variety of projects across Scotland including Edinburgh Zoo. The Green Insurance Company are successfully working with the Royal Zoological Society Scotland to support their conservation project in Uganda, The Budongo Conservation Field Station.

The main aim of this field station is to protect and preserve the habitat of more than 640 chimpanzees. Camping equipment, employing hunters and relocating a school were the first activities for the field station. Although the main focus of this project was to study the chimpanzees and to preserve their environment, the activities have now expanded to wider conservation issues to include other species within the habitat of the chimpanzees. The work at the field centre has been highly encouraging especially now with projects expanding into wider communities.

As with all of the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland's conservation work home or abroad, the foundation for its success is based on community engagement and education. We work closely with local adults and children to encourage conservation at a grass roots level: setting up school wildlife clubs, nominating villagers to oversee local conservation projects and helping to identify alternative income sources that decrease the destruction of the forest's valuable resources.

Please help us to continually support the good work of The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland and protect our rainforests.
