Sweet Success!
Green Grants £10K Winner revealed
Well folks, the results are in, we put four fantastic ‘green’ projects to the public vote to decide which one would ultimately walk away with a Green Grant of £10,000, and the people have spoken.
We are delighted to announce that the winner of Grimple’s Green Grants 2011 is... Freightliners Farm Buzz Club!
The Freightliners Farm Buzz Club won by an online public vote after judges chose four top candidates from almost 600 funding applications received through our Green Grants website.
Freightliners Farm was founded in 1973, it is a busy working farm based in the heart of Islington which provides an outstanding educational and recreational resource for the local community, welcoming around 30,000 visitors every year!
The Buzz Club aims to get young people interested in beekeeping and will teach children to utilise the farm’s extensive bee keeping experience, showing them how to make bee products and help meet the increasing demand from local people interested in bee keeping at the farm.
Our funding will help go towards beekeeper staffing, the construction of a pond with bee-friendly plants, the cost of protective bee suits for the children and teenagers, an observation hive and training for volunteers and staff. These investments will help the organisation continue to produce more than 180kg of honey annually for the local community. Sweet!
We’d like to say a BIG thank you to everyone who took part, including our fantastic judges, our £10K runners up and to everyone else who took the time to apply.
With work on the Buzz Club scheduled to begin in spring 2012, we’re very excited to see the project develop and we will, of course, keep you all up-to-date with the latest ‘buzz’ from the good folks over at Freightliners Farm.
