The Marine Conservation Society (MCS) is the only charity working uniquely to protect UK seas, shores and wildlife.
"Our seas are under immense pressure: too many fish are being taken out, too much rubbish is being thrown in and too little is being done to protect our precious marine wildlife and vital fish stocks."
The Green Insurance Company teamed up with the MCS to help protect our beaches and launch the MCS ongoing campaign "Clean Seas and Beaches". Over the last decade litter has greatly increased on British beaches and this affects marine life at every level from tiny algae to gigantic whales. Every week a staggering 150 000 000 plastic shopping bags are used in the UK. That means every person in the UK uses around 6 bags every week with each bag being used for only 12 minutes on average!
Plastic bags are often mistaken for food by marine animals. A floating plastic bag and a jellyfish look very similar to marine life. Hundreds of marine life are killed due to this mistake which has consequences further up the food chain. Supporting "Clean Seas and Beaches" helps the MCS educate the younger generation learn more about marine life and help to protect our coasts and sea life.
Please continue to help us support the Marine and Conservation Society. You can find out more information on their website.
We would also like to recommend the MCS "Go Plastic Bag Free" Campaign. You could even use this as a guide for a project idea to secure funding from Grimple's Green Grants.
