The Judges
We have 4 fantastic judges this year, all with a wealth of knowledge in the environmental sector. We are pleased to welcome back Mike Robinson and Jim Hansom for their second year and also very excited to introduce our new judges Dr Paul Walton and David W Mckinnon.

Dr Paul Walton Dr Paul Walton has worked in bird conservation and research across the world, including the Himalayas, South-East Asia, the Middle East and Amazonia. As Head of Habitats and Species for RSPB Scotland, he coordinates the work on key species and habitats. His research background is in seabird ecology. |

David W McKinnon David is the Corporate Business Development Manager with the National Trust for Scotland. For the past 15 years he has worked in the Voluntary Sector in a fundraising capacity, 11 years with the Prince’s Trust – Scotland and 4 years with the National Trust for Scotland. Over this period he has been involved in a variety of projects including the Culloden Visitor Centre and the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum. |

Jim Hansom Jim Hansom is Reader in Geographical and Earth Sciences, University of Glasgow, Scotland and Professor of Geography (adjunct), University of Canterbury, New Zealand. As a coastal geomorphologist he is interested in how the coastal environment can be managed sustainably in the face of climate change and the need for adaptation. He has authored 150 research publications and 4 books. |

Mike Robinson Mike is Chief Executive of the Royal Scottish Geographical Society (RSGS) based in Perth, a small independent educational charity. He is on the board of several charities - Stop Climate Chaos, Scottish Environment Link, National Trust for Scotland, and the UK Soil Association. Previously a trustee of Survival International and Friends of the Earth Scotland, he holds a number of other national voluntary roles. |

Stage One
Applications will be assessed electronically to ensure all components have been filled in correctly and that all essential criteria have been met before beginning. If you have not met these or essential information is missing your application will not be considered.
We will send you a confirmation email to let you know we have successfully received your application.
Stage Two
All applications will then be reviewed by our panel of judges. We may contact you at this stage to clarify any information or to request further information on your project. Desirable criteria may also be examined at this stage depending on the number of applicants. We will allow you three working days to provide us with any further information that we have requested. If you have not met this deadline you will be removed from the application process.
At this stage we will send you an email to inform you of the progress of your application.
Stage Three
Up to £2,000 grants - The remaining applications will then be assessed again taking any desirable criteria into consideration. It is unlikely at this stage the panel of judges may request further information regarding your project but if they do, you will again have three working days to send any requested information otherwise you will be removed from the application process.
If you are not successful at this stage, the judges will recommend other funding bodies that you may be interested in applying to. We will inform you of their decision and their recommendations through email. If the judges really like your project and think it is viable we will send you a confirmation letter and contact you by telephone to congratulate you! We will talk you through what happens next and how you will receive your funding. It should take around two weeks for us to process your grant once everything has been clarified with you.
Up to £10,000 grants - Judges will create a shortlist of four applications from all of those who have applied for the £10,000 award. The Green Insurance Company will then display details of these projects on their Green Giving Website, including a mechanism for the public to vote on their favourite. There will also be links to the voting page posted on The Green Insurance Company Facebook page and The Green Insurance Company Twitter page.
After the period of voting closes, the winning project will receive a confirmation letter and a phone call advising how funding will be sent. It should take us around two weeks to process grants once everything has been clarified. The runner up projects in the vote will be allocates a £500 grant each, with the same timescales applying.
All projects allocated a grant will be sent an electronic toolkit containing website banners and The Green Insurance Company logos. You will be required to display these on your project website/social media sites and emails which will contain links to The Green Insurance Company website. Technical support about how to do this will be supplied with the toolkit.
